Faculty of Chemistry
Originally established as the Department of Chemistry under the former Faculty of Science in 1963, The Faculty of Chemistry gained its faculty status in 1989 and started its academic activities with 548 students (523 undergraduate, 16 M.Sc. and 9 Ph.D.). At present 518 undergraduates, 107 M.Sc. and 42 Ph.D. students are studying at this faculty. Approximately, 130 new students at undergraduate level and 56 students at graduate level are admitted annually to this faculty.
There are a total of 29 full-time academic staff members serving at the Faculty, 27 of whom direct graduate research. They conduct active research programs in modern Analytical, Applied, Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. The physical facilities including 40 research laboratories equipped with a broad spectrum of research instrumentation such as 400 MHz NMR, GC-Mass, ICP-AES, GF-AAS, HPLC, FT-IR, CHNS and advanced electrochemical equipment are among the best in the country.
Recently the Faculty was known as one of the most distinguished research centers for chemistry countrywide and has been accepted as one of center of excellence in chemistry under the title of Center of Excellence for New Materials and Clean Chemistry. There arc Five Departments all offering B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees.
